Our guide to Bristol's finest independent coffee shops

Rachel Davies
Written by Rachel Davies

In honour of our brand new monthly coffee morning 'The Monthly Grind' at our Bristol campus, we've rounded up some of the best coffee spots in the city, all a short walk from Temple Meads train station and our own shared workspace, Temple Campus. From an underground arch to a shipping container, a chic roastery to a viennoiserie, here are the some of the finest Bristol independent coffee spots you should check out in the surrounding area.

Hart's Bakery

No Bristol foodie list would be complete without mentioning local culinary legends, Hart's Bakery. Founded by Laura Hart 15 years ago, this is a family-run business tucked under the Victorian arches of Temple Meads train station, an artisan bakery that's both a bustling community hub as well as a vibrant café. Serving coffee from local roastery, Extract Coffee alongside freshly baked sourdough and sausage rolls that are truly out of this world, did we mention this is directly opposite the entrance to our coworking space?

The Coffee Box

A converted shipping container serving Clifton Coffee by a former Bristol Manor Farm FC goalkeeper, now offering a different kind of kick. Pitched up at the end of Portwall Lane, The Coffee Box is open Monday to Friday and is the perfect spot to pick up a coffee on your daily commute.

Mokoko Bakery

Independent bakery in Bristol and Bath, Mokoko is a bakery specialising in beautiful viennoiserie (yes, we had to google that too) and naturally leavened breads. Serving a rotating selection of coffee throughout the seasons to reflect the best of what is grown and harvested in each country of origin, discover a new flavour with each visit.

The Monthly Grind

For those based in Bristol, come and join us on the first Thursday of the month in The Engine Room at Temple Studios for The Monthly Grind, a coffee morning championing a different blend from the local community. Providing an opportunity to network over a good brew from a fellow business sharing entrepreneurial spirit, we'll be rotating our chosen roastery every month, with September's offering being independent specialists, Wogan Coffee. Come for the coffee, stay for the community.
